Rhinoceros

by Eugène Ionesco

The novel portrays a small town where a citizen transforms into a rhinoceros and begins to trample the social order. The change spreads to other residents, creating increasing chaos as more become rhinoceroses. The story, a staple of theatre classrooms and 20th‑century drama, follows Berenger, the only sane man who remains human and unchanged.
