Terms of Service
Last updated: July 16, 2026
These terms cover your use of ChapterPals. They're meant to be readable, not lawyerly. By using the app, you agree to them. If you have questions, reach us from Settings → Help in the app.
Using ChapterPals
ChapterPals helps book clubs coordinate reading, meetings, voting, and discussion. You agree to use the app lawfully, to treat fellow members with respect, and to follow these terms. You're responsible for the content you post and for activity in clubs you organize.
Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old to use ChapterPals. If you're under the age of majority where you live, you should have a parent or guardian's permission to use the app.
Your account
Sign-in is passwordless: we email you a one-time link, or you can use Sign in with Apple or Google. Because the email address on your account (or your Apple/Google account) controls access, keep it secure: anyone with access to it can sign in as you. You're responsible for activity under your account. You can delete your account at any time from Settings → Delete account in the app; it takes effect immediately.
Acceptable use
Please don't use ChapterPals to:
- harass, threaten, or harm other members;
- post unlawful, infringing, hateful, or sexually explicit content;
- spam, scrape, or attempt to disrupt or reverse-engineer the service;
- access accounts, clubs, or data that aren't yours, or circumvent access controls.
We may warn, limit, or suspend accounts that abuse the service or put other members at risk.
Clubs and members
Club organizers can pick books, schedule meetings, manage membership, and set how the club chooses its next read. Organizers are responsible for who they invite and for keeping their club a welcoming space. Members can join discussions, vote, RSVP, and track progress. Content you share in a club is visible to that club's members.
Your content
You keep ownership of the content you create: your reviews, messages, and lists. You grant ChapterPals the limited, non-exclusive permission needed to store, display, and share that content with your clubs so the service works. You're responsible for ensuring you have the right to post what you share.
Copyright
We respect intellectual property rights and expect members to do the same. If you believe content on ChapterPals infringes your copyright, send a written notice to legal@chapterpals.com that includes:
- a physical or electronic signature of the copyright owner or someone authorized to act on their behalf;
- identification of the copyrighted work you claim has been infringed;
- identification of the material you claim is infringing, and information reasonably sufficient for us to locate it (e.g., a link);
- your contact information (address, phone number, and email);
- a statement that you have a good-faith belief the use is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law; and
- a statement, made under penalty of perjury, that the above information is accurate and that you're the copyright owner or authorized to act on their behalf.
If you believe your content was removed by mistake or misidentification, reply to the same address explaining why and we'll review it in good faith. We may remove content, warn, or suspend accounts in response to valid, repeated infringement notices.
Book information
Book titles, covers, descriptions, and similar metadata come from third-party catalogs and the publishers or rights holders behind them. It's provided to help your club find and discuss books, and remains the property of its respective owners.
Service availability and changes
ChapterPals is offered "as is" and "as available" while we actively build it out. We work to keep it reliable, but we can't guarantee uninterrupted or error-free service, and features may be added, changed, or removed over time.
Disclaimers and liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, ChapterPals is provided without warranties of any kind, and we aren't liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the app. Some jurisdictions don't allow certain limitations, so some of these may not apply to you.
Termination
You can stop using ChapterPals and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or end access if these terms are violated or if needed to protect the service or its members.
Your privacy
How we handle your personal data is described in our Privacy Policy, which forms part of these terms.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the U.S. state in which ChapterPals is operated, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest remains in effect.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as the product evolves. When we make material changes, we'll update the date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app. Continuing to use ChapterPals after an update means you accept the revised terms.
