What the day owes the night
After half a century, Jonas meets his friends from his youth again. He looks back on his life and the turbulent history of his homeland, Algeria. Born under the Arabic name Younes, he grows up on the dark side of fate, while Jonas grows up in the European quarter of the coastal town of Rio Salado. There he meets the beautiful Frenchwoman Émilie – she becomes the love of his life. Over decades, the longing of these two people reflects the dramatic relationship between the Orient and the Occident, two worlds that cause each other so much suffering and yet struggle so desperately for reconciliation.
