The only white people Imatu has ever seen in her village in West Africa are the ones who came to sell guns, gin, and slave chains. But when Mary Slessor arrives one day to set up a school, the villagers grow to love and respect her. When Imatu's mother and some others are taken prisoner and threatened with the dreaded poison bean, Mary organizes a daring rescue.
