Dark Crusade.

by Karl Edward Wagner

Kane, the mystic swordsman--an immortal, flame-haired sorcerer-warrior, cursed by an insane elder god to walk the Earth until eventually destroyed by the violence that he himself created. Out of a grim and almost-forgotten past arises the cruel cult of Sataki. Its fanatical prophet and leader is Orted Ak-Ceddi--once a hunted outlaw, but now possessed by the spirit of an ancient and evil god--whose powers of persuasion draw hundreds of thousands of converts to his cause, his Dark Crusade against the Children of Light. Yet despite his many conquests, even his shadow-horde is facing defeat in the southern kingdoms, and so the Prophet of Sataki turns to Kane to command an army of mercenaries. But, as always, Kane is laying his own plans, and those do not include allowing the Gods of Darkness and Chaos to claim a final victory over mankind.
