Last Guardian

by Charles Grant

Samurai James the Starmaster is the last of his ancient race, created by the oldest wizards to protect galaxies and worlds, so when a siren sounds in James' control center, signifying the destructive opening of the Great Doorway to the entire galactic field, James calls on his young temple friend Mage Tarian to help plan a strategy that will reach and close the distant Gate, and so, protect every world in its range. When James summons and regenerates his knights, he adds to his band the Princess assigned to Tarian for training, in spite of the dangerous journey, because each one of his team has a skill needed to open the various stargates and imprint the stored orbs along their journey, giving James the strength of every representative as he confronts the enemy waiting for him at the Great Doorway. Now, with the unexpected addition of Princess Crystal's friend Zoe, daughter of a ruthless and murderous Fate Dragoon commander determined to claim the orbs and stop the Starmaster, James and his friends must outwit the enemy, pass through the perilous gates, and survive every danger to complete their goal, with a stubborn temple mage insistent on protecting the Starmaster, and a more obstinate Starmaster determined to face the ancient enemy on his own, in his greatest, and possibly, last challenge, although even an ancient guardian can be surprised. Qualities that shine through any life journey are loyalty, friendship, a need for family, and a passion for living, proving that honor outlasts greed.
