Mishneh Torah (Codification of Talmudic laws)
Maimonides' comprehensive code of Jewish law, compiled in the twelfth century and organised into fourteen books covering the whole of halakhah, from belief and prayer through civil and criminal law. Its innovation was structure and plain Hebrew: it states the law directly rather than reproducing the Talmudic argument that produced it, which made it usable and controversial in equal measure. It remains a central reference in Jewish legal study. The date on this record reflects an early printing, not composition.
