In the channel between the Island of Salamis and the Greek mainland on a September morning in 480BC, two of the greatest civilisations the world has seen collided_ The war which had raged for twenty bloody years reached crisis point. The Persians, led by Xerxes, had invaded Greece and taken half of it.
