The Blackoke tyrant

by Audrey Blanshard

In the late eighteenth century Evelyn was a boy's name, but nevertheless Evelyn Maddock of Blackoke Castle was a girl. She has been named by her ill-tempered and disappointed father who had wanted a son. Maltreated and ignored by her widowed parent, Evelyn could not but be pleased when he arranged her marriage with Richard Craven, a weak but amiable young man. However, everything changed with the unexpected arrival of Bianca at Blackoke Castle, and soon Evelyn inexplicably found her life threatened.
