A collection of 66 spontaneously executed watercolors by Alice Miller, reproduced in full color. Miller, a psychoanalyst, author, & painter, explores the connection between childhood & that creative activity which "somehow permits us to come to grips with the demons of our past, to give form to the chaos within, & thereby master our anxiety." Having realized a lifelong desire to paint, Miller found an unfamiliar world emerging from her paintings: not the "nice" world of her childhood, but one of fear, despair, & loneliness. She offers a profound analysis of the roots of creativity in the authentic self's struggle for survival.
