Mercy's Room: (recollections of a memoir)
Leaving her Adirondack camp wasn’t the author’s choice but life keeps happening, as you know. She was confident that a new wilderness would await and it did turn out that way except that the new wilderness amounted to a bewildering and debilitating state. She had always been plagued by mental distress but the demons arrived one by one in the past so she could work around them. Now though, chronic depression, anxiety, panic attacks and insomnia ganged up, plus her body was falling apart Sometimes she said, “What’s the point?!” Which is when the pestering voice in her head said, Well that’s stupid! She lived in her room now, and even though her body would no longer cooperate she could still write things down. This is the story of Mercy and, yes, it has to do with those demons I mentioned, but I promise that it isn’t doom and gloom. Doom and gloom was not Mercy’s way.
