Marathon Man

William Goldman's 1974 thriller. Babe Levy is a graduate student and distance runner in New York whose brother turns out to have been working in intelligence, which drags Babe into the path of Christian Szell, a fugitive Nazi dentist coming out of hiding to collect diamonds taken from Auschwitz victims. The interrogation scene, built around the question is it safe, is among the most famous in the genre. Goldman wrote the 1976 film himself, with Dustin Hoffman and Laurence Olivier.
