We're all different. But when Ismae O'Connor was born, her difference was just easier to see. On a January morning, Beth and Steve bring three-day-old baby Ismae home from the hospital. A little girl to complete their ordinary suburban family. Except that Ismae is different. And as she gets older and stronger, her difference become more obvious. But as her family strive to ignore the stifling prejudices of a community determined to only look skin deep, they begin to feel the strain. Do they risk falling apart, letting the difference come between them?
