Four Girls in a Store
Life was just about as complicated as it could be for Beverley Burrows. She had stormed out of her parents' house, suitcase in hand, and gone to her hated job at Durringtons, homeless, miserable and late. When she was summoned to the Staff Manager's office she thought she was going to be sacked, but she discovered that her two years' experience of selling in all departments of the large store had at last borne fruit. She was offered an exciting new job in the department fulfilling outside contracts for interior decorating, which was something she had always wanted to do. But Beverley also had problems outside work which needed solving, and when she joined three other Durringtons girls in a flat, she learned that she was not the only one with family troubles.
