Mirror in the Mirror
Michael Ende's collection of thirty short linked pieces, written for adults rather than the readers of The Neverending Story. Each is a dreamlike fragment, and each connects to the ones on either side, so the book can be read as a chain or a labyrinth. The imagery is surreal and often unsettling, closer to Kafka or Borges than to children's fantasy, and it was written in dialogue with his father Edgar Ende's paintings.
