The Earth's first interstellar colony has been on the planet Topaz for 300 years. Ten generations after their arrival, civilization has dispersed, grown and degenerated. Doing business as usual, Humankind struggles against itself.In searching for an answer to an injustice, Benjamin discovers that he must not just redress a wrong, he must forgive it. If he doesn't, the entire colony will be engulfed and erased by an threatening alien race. But where can the colonists turn when they've lost so much of their history? Only another alien can help, and Benjamin must find it.
