This rough magic: Lucy Waring, on a visit to her sister in Corfu, is thrilled to discover that the villa above theirs is rented to Sir Julian Gale, one of England's most brilliant actors. Lucy's hopes of meeting Sir Julian are dashed when she learns that the great man's son, Max, is closely guarding his father from all visitors. Then one day when Lucy is sunning on the rocks above the cove, rifle shots ring out, and the only person in view is Max Gale...Suddenly Lucy finds herself caught in a series of mystifying and thoroughly frightening events, and the brilliance of sunny Corfu is darkened by terrible violence before it is lightened again by the radiance of love.
