Captured by Indians

by James E. Seaver

In 1758, 15-year-old Mary Jemison was dragged from her Pennsylvania cabin by a raiding party of Frenchmen and Shawnee Indians. From that point on, Mary was an Indian, and her story, recorded at the age of 80, became one of the most popular captivity narratives of all time. She refused to come home, and her autobiography leaves a dear picture of life on the Northeast frontier.
