Why People Believe Weird Things
Michael Shermer's survey of why intelligent people believe unfounded things, covering creationism, Holocaust denial, alien abduction, recovered-memory cases and near-death experiences. Shermer founded the Skeptics Society, and the book's most quoted idea is that smart people are often better at defending beliefs they arrived at for non-smart reasons. It works as an introduction to skeptical method rather than a debunking list, though it does plenty of debunking along the way.
