The Murdstone Trilogy
As a Young Adult novelist Philip Murdstone has won all the prizes, but his sales are miniscule and he loathes himself. If it was a film (which it will be) it would bear an 18 rating. Also you might die laughing. On the other hand it is intensely dramatic and exciting and contains some of the most sweetly crafted sentences you will ever read in English. Mal Peet has turned in a masterpiece.
