After a slender education due to broken family and wartime chaos, he became a messenger boy with the Yorkshire Post, London office, and started to write. He was in print (in a small way) at age 15. In time he worked as a staff writer for the Bristol Evening World, the Manchester Evening News, the London Daily Mail, the London Sunday Times and the Los Angeles Times. He has published 15 books, some translated into major languages. He lives in Oregon, USA.
