Vitamin C and the Common Cold
Linus Pauling won two Nobel prizes and spent his later career arguing that large doses of vitamin C prevent and shorten colds. This is the book that started that campaign, published in 1970 and revised afterwards. It sets out his reading of the trial evidence and his orthomolecular argument about optimum nutrient concentrations. It sold heavily and shaped decades of supplement habits, and the specific claims have largely not survived subsequent controlled trials.
