The Girl with the Long Green Heart
" The Girl With The Long Green Heart is a grifter novel that is perfectly pitched. One of those reads when you carry a terrible feeling that everything is going to go wrong....This one has a real hard-boiled flavour. The voice is perfect. The descriptions are minimal but nailed. The quips are sharp and the similes original and full of an acerbic humour that I really enjoyed. Another Hard Case Crime cracker to add to my list and my thirst for Lawrence Block is back." Nigel Bird at Sea Minor. SHE WAS EVERY MAN'S DREAM - AND ONE MAN'S NIGHTMARE! Johnny Hayden and Doug Rance had a scheme to take real estate entrepreneur Wallace Gunderman for all he was worth. But they needed a girl on the inside to make it work. Enter Evelyn Stone: Gunderman's secretary, his lover - and his worst enemy. Gunderman had promised to marry her, but never came through. Now she's ready to make him pay... Johnny Hayden has spent a lifetime working the long con, establishing a deceptive front and stinging a mark big-time. A stretch in prison has made a temporarily honest man out of him, but the prospect of one big score to fund his retirement is too much to resist. Noir enthusiasts will be absorbed by a swirling plot, with Johnny and Doug and Evelyn caught up in a race nobody can win. And Hard Case Crime collectors will be able to understand why The Girl with the Long Green Heart has been a key entry ever since the series was launched.
