I Did It!: Adventures with Michael: The Chronicle of an Aging Hiker Overcoming Adversity to Trek in the Peruvian Huayhuash
This is the eigth book in Michael Williams’ “Adventures with Michael” series that recounts his adventures. We’ve all faced adversity and this book provides a perspective on overcoming physical limitations to accomplish a goal. Following a herniated disc – which rendered Michael unable to walk – many of Michael’s medical team thought Michael would never run again and possibly not trek or climb mountains. Walking downhill was the greatest challenge as his balance would falter and he was scared of falling. Believing in himself, Michael trained for a year until he was able to walk with confidence and two years before he felt comfortable enough to go running, hiking and climbing. The book offers insights into the human spirit and Michael’s Desire, Determination and Dedication to overcome his own situation and continue living. This book is personal as you get a sense of the manner in which Michael responded to various situations and realized that his greatest fear was fear itself. We all have the power in us to accomplish great things. A major obstacle we all face is believing in yourself [even when the medical community says you are not capable], not giving up, and being focused on your goal. With the 3 Ds, an ordinary person can accomplish most anything they set their mind to.
