Sandra Lorraine had always been completely happy in her snug little world of the Children’s Ward of St. Christopher’s Hospital, and she was never tired of the work or of the time-honoured and unchanging ritual of hospital routine. But the arrival of the consultant Peter Donaldson, with his ‘new broom’ techniques and brash new ideas, changed everything, and Sandra was not at all sure she liked the change. She supposed she would have to make the best of it as far as her work was concerned, but as for the man himself, the less she saw of him the better. She could never, never like him . . .
