The Fall of El Pantera
Would you become a killer if those you love were taken from you?Would you commit murder to avenge your brother?Would you kill your own father? The Fall Of El Pantera is a ripping yarn from start to finish, full of miracles, murder, revenge, corruption and crime. It is a satire on the world of professional football, where teams are full of spoilt prima-donnas, who operate without loyalty and will auction their talents to the highest bidder. A web of subplots examine the moral complexities of the pursuit of revenge, the political corruption that has plagued modern Ireland and the victims of abuse living in the same town as their abuser.Set between the town of Dundalk in Ireland, Barcelona and London, the novel's two main protagonists are GoGo Martin, a twenty two year old Irish 'nobody', who likes nothing more than cheering on with his mates Macka and Benny, his beloved Dundalk Utd and getting drunk in the process and Luis 'El Pantera' Firpo, the greatest footballer ever to kick a ball.GoGo Martin loves football for its beauty and skill and especially the honesty of his local team, Dundalk Utd. Luis 'El Pantera' Firpo, on the other hand, is a pure genius, a multi-millionaire superstar, raised in the slums of Buenos Aires and now playing with Barcelona. But Luis has been corrupted by wealth and power, to the point where he regularly curses at his fans, indulges in drink and drugs and is even hated by his own team-mates. Some unknown power switches their talents, so that GoGo Martin becomes the genius and Luis Firpo, the mediocre one. What will these changes mean for their lives? Will they even survive the madness?
