The German edition of Hannah Arendt's The Origins of Totalitarianism, and not merely a translation: Arendt reworked it herself, and the German version differs from the English in places. It moves in three parts, antisemitism, imperialism, and totalitarianism proper, arguing that Nazi and Soviet rule were a new form of government rather than an extreme tyranny, resting on ideology, terror and the atomised mass. First published in English in 1951.
