House of Souls
A collection of Arthur Machen's weird fiction, most importantly The White People, which Lovecraft rated among the best horror stories ever written and which takes the form of a young girl's diary describing rituals she does not understand. The Great God Pan and other tales usually accompany it. Machen wrote at the turn of the twentieth century and his method is suggestion rather than event, which is why the stories still work.
