On Intersectionality
Kimberle Crenshaw introduced intersectionality in two law-review articles in 1989 and 1991, arguing that antidiscrimination law failed Black women because it treated race and sex as separate tracks: a claim had to be one or the other, so harm arising from both fell through. This collects her writing on the concept. Reading the original is worth it, because the term has since been stretched well past the specific legal argument it was built to make.
