The novel was a best-seller and was later adapted into a silent film which starred Rudolph Valentino. Hull's novel was one of the first works of popular fiction to feature a passionate love story between a European woman and an Arab man. Her follow-up novel, “The Sons of the Sheik”, was adapted into a sequel film with Paramount, also starring Valentino.
