Me and My Bones,

by Roy A. Gallant

"The intricacies of the human skeletal system and how it compares with that of other animals are the subjects of this fascinating photographic study. The idea for this book came from part of an exhibit at The American Museum of Natural History in which structural similarities of the forelimbs of the fruit bat, monkey, man, hen, and ostrich were shown. Once while walking by the exhibit it occurred to the author that making the subject of comparative anatomy relevant, by focusing on a child's skeleton, would be a wonderful way of teaching a little bit about evolution. Once Mr. Gallant had finally succeeded in obtaining a human skeleton - not an easy job - he found that he had to clear it with the local health officials, a necessary step if one is transporting part of a human body from one township to another. Mr. Gallant's efforts have resulted in this entertaining book, with its unusual approach to the study of man and his bones."
