The Critter and Other Dogs
These seventeen stories have as their heroes dogs of varied breeds and equally varied dispositions. Some are old favorites originally published in periodicals, two are nonfiction stories of actual incidents in the author's experience. Among them are Old Lee, a royal hunter who earned a sirloin steak and as a consequnce caused his devoted friend Meshek to spend ninety days in jail; Jock, whose young master was a teller of tall tales until the night that they went together to the zoo and literally bearded a wolf in its den; and Leggy, generally regarded as a fool pup not worth shooting, who developed into a superb sheep dog and loyal friend. --Book jacket.
