Harriet Beecher Stowe was a prominent American abolitionist and writer during the 19th century. Through her classic novel Uncle Tom's Cabin, Stowe would become one of the most influential Americans in history.Uncle Tom's Cabin is an anti-slavery novel published in 1852 that is considered by many to have been one of the main factors leading to the Civil War less than 10 years later. The book was so influential that Abraham Lincoln upon meeting Stowe declared that "this is the little lady who started this great war."
