Told through the eyes of primary character Langdon Towne, Northwest Passage follows the exploits and character of Robert Rogers, leader of Rogers' Rangers, a colonial force that fought with the British during the French and Indian War. The first half of the novel depicts the raid by Rogers' Rangers on an Abenaki settlement at Saint-François-du-Lac, Quebec. The second half concerns Rogers' later life in England and in Fort Michilimackinac, Michigan.
