Conspiracy
Jake's father is taking the family to a remote village, where there are no Yeerk pools, for Jake's great-grandfather's funeral. This means that Jake's brother Tom can't go, because the Yeerk controlling his every move would die without access to a pool. But his Dad insists he must go.
