This is Vidal's story of the faithful troubadour Blondel's search for Richard the Lionheart, kidnapped and held to ransom by Duke Leopold of Austria after the Third Crusade. It interweaves historical characters with giants, werewolves, dragons, libidinous ladies of the manor and a nasty vampire.
