It crept up slowly at first, just a dark shadow on the back recess of his mind. He felt slight hints of its presence, but never quite sure if it was real. Then, without warning, it flared. He rose to his feet with such speed that it looked as if he never transgressed the stages in between. Pride swelled up inside of him like a great wave washing over every fiber of his being.
